The following rules, requirements, and limitations apply to all Kill Team Open: Squad Goals artists and entries:

Conditions of Entry

  • All entries must be submitted in person, by the entrant, before 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18th, 2023. To register, entrants must first collect the necessary forms from the main registration area, where they will receive everything they need for proper entry registration. Entry registration will be at the Squad Goals booth located next to the Classes and Workshops Area.

  • Anyone submitting in the Squad Goals Painting Competition must purchase a Tournament or General Admission Ticket to be eligible to submit entries; Squad Goals entry fees also apply. Tickets may be purchased here.

  • There is a limit of 1 entry per entrant, per category.

  • All composition and painting must be the artist’s own work. Uncredited conversion work, sculpting or 3D printed parts from another party are acceptable. This includes the submission of scratch-built models built by another party but painted by the submitting artist. Only one person may be listed and credited as the entrant on any joint effort entries. There will be no co-credit given or division or duplication of prizes.

  • Entrants must remain available for judging, queries, and prize awards during the competition.

  • Entrants agree to provide all entries, at their own risk, to the Squad Goals team for the duration of the competition for the purpose of display, photography, and judging.  Kill Team Open accepts no responsibility for damage to or loss of entries during the competition.

  • Entrants agree to have their entries photographed, videoed, or otherwise recorded by the Kill Team Open, and such recordings shall be the property of Kill Team Open and shall be used in whatever manner Kill Team Open sees fit without further reference or payment to the entrant.

  • Kill Team Open and Squad Goals staff/volunteers may submit entries for the Squad Goals painting competition. Judges for the Squad Goals Painting Competition are not eligible to submit entries for the painting competition.

  • If the number of entries exceeds the capacity of the display cases, Squad Goals staff will continuously rotate submissions between the display cases and the locked storage area.

  • Entries may not be submitted to the Squad Goals Painting Competition that have already been entered and judged in a previous year of the competition.

Check-In, Handling & Pick Up

  • Check-ins and pickups follow the posted Kill Team Open Schedule and work in conjunction with the Registration Desk onsite during the tournament. Entries will be received during posted hours.

  • Artists must register their entries in person; this must be the same person who painted the model(s). Artists may not have someone deliver their entry for judging.

  • Artists must sign a Hold Harmless agreement with the Kill Team Open along with their registration form at the time of Squad Goals check-in.

  • Entrants are responsible for the transportation of entries to and from the competition.  No storage space for transportation materials will be provided.  Entrants must pick up entries on Sunday, February 19th, 2023 after 12:00PM and before 7:00PM. Models not picked up before 7:00PM on Sunday February 19th, 2023 may be considered a donation to the Kill Team Open.

  • Squad Goals staff reserve the right to limit the display of an entry that is submitted on an oversized base or tray. This restriction is not meant to curtail creativity, it is merely needed to ensure the competition functions within the facilities and display space Kill Team Open has available. If you have a particular piece you are considering or motivated to create that may exceed reasonable dimensions, please email killteamopen@gmail.com

  • Entries must be picked up in person. A designee may be used for the pick-up of entries. Designees for pick-up must be brought to the attention of Squad Goals staff at the time of registration. To officially appoint a designee, an artist must name the person on their entry form.

Judging

  • Official judging will take place Saturday February 18th, 2023 during Dinner, before Kill Team: After Dark.

  • The Squad Goals Painting Competition uses a panel judging approach to this painting competition. This 3-person judging panel, chosen by the Kill Team Open executive staff, will consist of renowned miniature artists from across the United States. These judges will be the sole arbiters of the results in each category and their decisions are final.

  • Decisions on sponsored awards, and fan favorite are judged by either attendees (Fan Favorite) or the primary sponsors (Unless, in their absence, the Squad Goals Judges). In all instances, the decisions are final.

Prizes

  • The artist, or appointed designee (see previous) must be present to claim prize awards during the Awards Ceremony at 6:00PM on Sunday, February 19th 2023.

  • Each category shall have a Gold, Silver, and Bronze award.

  • Prizes will be distributed at the Awards Ceremony at 6:00PM on Sunday, February 19th 2023.

  • In the event of any dispute, the sum total liability of Kill Team Open to any entrant shall be whatever the entrant paid to Kill Team Open directly related to entry in the Squad Goals competition, i.e. $5.

  • All rules subject to change without notice.

Category Rules and Notes

  • All units not mounted on a single display base must be presented on a movement tray. This is to facilitate handling and photography, and to ensure the group is arranged as the entrant intends. Movement trays are not required to be painted or have groundwork. They will not be considered in onsite judging, and will neither add to nor detract from the entry’s score.

  • It is recommended that loose models on a plinth or movement tray be secured with magnets, or other means of attachment.

  • For fragile entries, please notify staff of any models which require special handling during registration.

  • Display plinths will not be considered in onsite judging, on either technical or artistic grounds, and will neither add to nor detract from the entry’s score. A plinth will not necessarily appear in photographs.

  • Entries may be removed from the display cabinets during the competition for use in games, but only for players in the Championships tournament. Entries cannot be removed from the display cabinets by anyone but a member of the Squad Goals Painting Competition staff, and must be returned promptly upon completion of the tournament. Entries that have broken due to play, or have not been returned, will be judged based upon the condition present at the time of judging.

  • The head judge will have final say on what models are suitable for submission and category placement of submitted models. Kill Team Open reserves the right to refuse any entry at its discretion.
